We´re so excited at Lola & Lykke to launch at amazing retailers like Mabel&Fox and make Nordic design and maternity care available to British mums! Lola & Lykke is a small Finnish maternal health brand with a goal of supporting mums through birth, breastfeeding and postpartum with award-winning products and useful advice. I founded the brand six years ago with a fellow Finnish mum, Kati, after experiencing major complications during birth and the postpartum period. We felt that while you’re pregnant everyone asks you how you are or how they can help. The minute you give birth, however, attention shifts from the mum to the baby, which makes it hard for women to receive the care and support they need.

We believe mums deserve more knowledge about breastfeeding and the postpartum period. Babies are amazing, but so are mums. Our goal is to educate, connect, and prepare women for the physical and emotional rollercoaster that often accompanies the journey of becoming a mum, so that all women feel supported during this major life change. At Lola & Lykke, we believe in ´mama first´. The best choice any parent can make will undoubtedly be an informed one. Furthermore, we believe the best motherhood experience is achieved through authenticity, honesty, and empowerment – we are real mums portraying a real image of what motherhood is really like.
Functional Finnish Design
Since setting up the business, we´ve been busy developing beautifully designed, functional products for mums. In fact, mums like them so much that they have been rated the best maternity products for 4 years in a row at both the Mother & Baby Awards and the Made for Mums Awards in the UK! We believe there are many reasons for this. First of all, we place women at the heart of our design and engineering process. From idea to development, from testing to production, women are key to every step. We use the highest quality materials and create sustainable, long-lasting products that last from one mother to the next. Above all, our products are loved by so many mums because they work so well. Finnish design is known for its functionality and simplicity and this evident in our entire product range.
Nordic Happiness & Maternity Care
Our brand is known for Nordic happiness and the high standards of Finnish maternity care. In fact, the word ´Lykke´ stands for happiness. So what makes a person happy? Ask someone living in the Nordic countries. After, we’re the happiest people in the world – and we have studies to back that up*. We are proud to say Finland is the world´s best place to be a mother. Why? Well, of course there´s Nordic equality, amazing parental leave, subsidized childcare, education, clean environment, nature and security – it´s the place where babies sleep outdoors, and children walk to school by themselves. Our healthcare system provides accessible and equal care to everybody, irrespective of your background or bank balance.
While naturally not all of this can be exported, we can take the best parts of Nordic happiness and use them to build our brand and our approach towards our customers. In the Nordics, our behaviour is based on honesty and being real – we like to call things as they are without too much small talk or sugarcoating – they say that with a Finn, you always know what you get.
Bringing this same trust and authenticity to motherhood will allow mums to approach birth and postpartum with a better sense of preparedness and control. Our goal at Lola & Lykke is to create a safe space, a community for mums, where help and advice is always easy to find. Being connected to a community, especially a community that is focused more on witnessing each other as people, rather than exclusively and intensively focusing on our children, will give us mothers a greater sense of solidarity. This is specifically the type of community we are building; where each new mum is met with openness, without judgement and with personalised support.
We Believe in ´Mama First´
In the middle of our busy family lives, taking care of ourselves often takes a backseat. Still, we are acutely aware that a mother is only able to thrive when she's looked after too. We need to reframe and redefine the idea that a good mother means taking care of everyone else first before she cares for herself. `Mama first´ means it's time to normalize and celebrate mothers putting their mental health, their needs, and their emotional well-being first. And it's not just the mamas who should embrace this, but this needs to be reinforced by partners, bosses, co-workers, and societies. The world needs to view and treat mothers as they are: brilliant, beautiful, emotional, complicated, selfless, strong, capable, valuable individuals who deserve support, understanding, time, and compassion on all levels.
